Location
The museum is located just a few kilometers from Kramsach.
If you drive from the side of Kundl, and Google will lead you as shown in the picture below, then pave the route to the bus stop (it is near the parking lot), otherwise you will drive to a dead end.
Ticket price and opening hours
Admission in August 2020 – 9€ for adults and 3€ for children from 5 to 17 years.
Opening hours:
- May – September from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- October – April from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About the Museum
The museum was founded in 1974 to preserve traditional farmhouses and household items from different regions of Austria.
Currently, the museum has 37 houses and outbuildings of different eras, which were rebuilt here.
Free access is available in all homes and annexes for keeping pets and storing agricultural equipment. In most of the rooms the passage is blocked by small partitions, which don’t interfere to inspect the interior and take photos. In open rooms you can move quietly.
In some houses there is an opportunity to climb to the second floor, where most often there are bedrooms, and the attic. The attics store chests, various tools and beds.
Also in the museum you can see what the school looked like at the beginning of the 19th century.
In some homes, short videos are automatically turned on when a person enters the room. In them, people in traditional clothes talk about some side of life in a particular house.
This museum for me is one of the most interesting and memorable of all that I have ever visited. We checked out every building for more than three hours. Inside each house smells of smoke and antiquity, wooden railing on the stairs polished, and the steps are rubbed from long years of descents and ascents on them.
In addition to the permanent exhibition in the museum is a very active public life. Every month they celebrate different holidays, held workshops and festivals. All useful information about the museum can be found on the official website.
