Crete Aquarium – the largest aquarium is not only in Crete but also in Greece. More than 250 different species of marine animals are kept in 60 exposition pools. The aquarium specializes in the inhabitants of the Mediterranean, reproducing their natural habitat as accurately as possible.

Location

The aquarium is located in the town of Gourne, 15 km from Heraklion. There is a parking lot in front of the aquarium for several dozen cars (35.332619, 25.283332). In 850 meters, practically in a straight line, there is a bus stop No. 9 (35.3258302, 25.2823855).

  • Adult ticket – 10 €; from 01 November to 31 March – 6 €
  • For children 5 – 17 years old – 6 €
  • For children under 4 years old – free

Opening hours

  • Winter time (November 1 – March 31): 9:30 – 16:00
  • Summer time (April 1 – October 31): 9:30 – 19:00

Due to quarantine restrictions, the aquarium is temporarily closed. The exact opening date will be published on the official website.

About the aquarium

Like many large modern aquarium – this is also very interesting to visit. Here you can get acquainted with some of the inhabitants of the Mediterranean Sea, and learn a lot about them.

Kids will love the low open aquarium with stingrays and a separate round aquarium with jellyfish lighting in which they hover in the same direction. And the sharks in the huge aquarium will impress visitors of all ages.

If you do snorkeling, diving or just dive will be a very entertaining here to search or identify fish seen you before.

There is a small restaurant on the side of the entrance to the aquarium building.

There is a small sandy beach 100 meters from the aquarium building, from which you can watch low-flying planes (35.333677, 25.282945).
