Since the beginning of the 12th century, Raugenek Castle has been the ancestral castle of the Tursen family, which owned it for almost 3 centuries until it became extinct. After that, he had new owners.

During its centuries-old history, the castle not only changed several owners, but was several times destroyed and restored. Unfortunately, we have only the ruins and the tower, which in 1961 became the property of the city of Baden. The city authorities built a bridge to the ruins across the moat, restored the tower and made a ladder inside it to climb to the observation deck.
The walls of the ancient chapel, which someone even visits, have been preserved in the ruins.

The observation deck is located on the roof of the tower, which has only one entrance. Almost all 25 meters will have to climb a steep wooden staircase almost in total darkness, as narrow and rare windows give minimal lighting. Inside the tower long ago settled pigeons, with all the consequences of them. That’s why the flashlight, even if it’s on the phone, you’ll be very useful.
If you do decide to climb, you will have wonderful views of the city and the surrounding area.

It is worth taking comfortable shoes, flashlight and gloves, if you want to hold on to the railing without fear of getting dirty in the bird dropping.
